Business biography

Johannes “Hansie” Fourie
He graduated from RAU University with a B.Comm (Honours) degree in 1990 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1991 after serving his articles with Price Waterhouse Coopers.

He gained extensive experience in auditing various types of businesses while doing his articles and soon after qualifying as a CA he was invited by a major listed information technology company to join the group as a financial manager. Within this group his abilities were used to turn around several struggling subsidiaries before he was appointed as financial director of one of the group’s largest subsidiaries and tasked with a major turnaround of the company, which he achieved in less than a year.

In 1994 he left the IT industry to establish his own business as a customs tariff consultant. Acting on behalf of most major information technology companies in South Africa, he was personally responsible for recovering tens of millions of Rand in customs duties paid in error by these companies.

In 1998 he was invited to join one of the most successful independent information technology distributors in the country as financial director and to assist in implementing accounting systems and procedures that would ensure the future profitability and success of the company. He played a major part in the success of this business and in the significant growth and profitability it continues to achieve.

In July 2008 he was recruited to head up a joint IT distribution venture between Ingram Micro Worldwide, the world’s largest IT distributor, and MB Technologies. At the time he was recruited the company was losing millions of Rand per month. In less than six months he was able to increase revenue more than fivefold and return the company to profitability.

In 2010, when Ingram Micro Worldwide decided to withdraw from the joint venture due to global trading conditions, he left the MB Technologies group to establish his own consulting practice and in 2014 he introduced and headed up the B-BBEE consultancy practice at Business Beyond Boundaries (BBB).

After restructuring BBB as a 51% black-owned company in 2016, he was invited by the new owners to take up the position of CEO, which he holds today.

Brian Streak
Serves as an associate executive with Business Beyond Boundaries and is responsible for business development.

He started a distinguished 16-year career in mainstream journalism with the Independent Group (formerly the Argus Group) in Zimbabwe in 1967. During his career in journalism he held a number of executive editorial positions within the group’s premier newspaper titles in Zimbabwe and South Africa, including those of Sports Editor, News Editor, Chief Sub-editor and senior Assistant Editor on newspaper titles that included The Sunday Mail, The Herald and The Star.

In 1983 he was recruited out of journalism to become a shareholder and director of one of South Africa’s leading public relations and corporate communications consultancies at the time.

After six years in this field he was invited to join a listed information technology group where he pursued a successful eight-year career at executive level as group marketing director and as managing director of a group subsidiary that specialised in the distribution and support of computer software.

In 1995 he left the IT industry to set up a specialist marketing communications and services company that in 2005 was transformed into Odirile Marketing & Communications (OMC), a black-owned company that continues to service several blue-chip local and multinational technology companies.

In 2009 he was instrumental in the formation of Business Beyond Boundaries, a company operated by an integrated team of businessmen with proven track records gained in careers as senior executives with leading local and multinational organisations across multiple business sectors.

The team applied its collective knowledge and extensive practical experience in assisting clients to focus on the health, enhanced profitability and long-term sustainability of their business through the provision of independent, objective and value-driven consultancy services.

In 2016, after the transformation of BBB into a 51% black-owned company, these services were consolidated to focus exclusively on broad-based black economic empowerment consultancy and the provision of turnkey managed support services.
